SMI’s vision is to make a positive impact, one artisan at a time, by sustaining the revival of the handloom and handicraft sectors and improving livelihood opportunities for skilled artisans. Situated at the intersection of sustainability and luxury, SMI strives to create exquisite, eco-friendly fabrics while comprehensively addressing the three pillars of sustainability—economic development, social development, and environmental protection—at all stages of the handloom weaving process. No electrically operated machinery is used in the entire fabric production process. SMI strives to use natural resources as much as possible, such as plant based dyes and azo-free reactive dyes. Inspired by the slow approach, SMI is motivated to make a difference by reducing the environmental impact of textiles and creating a more sustainable future. SMI offers eco-friendly 3X1 handwoven selvedge denim made from 100% natural yarns, and available in weights from 3.5 to 13.5 oz. per square yard in a wide range of colours and customizable widths from 30 to 50 inches, including selvedge. SMI also offers apparel and accessories like coasters, wallets, ties, tote bags etc. made from Selvedge Denim. Additionally SMI offers a curated collection of Eri SIlk stoles and scarves and other handcrafted items in collaboration with other artisanal organizations
